Recycling

We Norwegians take recycling seriously! :)

Our waste is sorted into different colored bags, which are placed in the same garbage bin. These are then optically sorted at the recycling plant. Please follow the instructions below to ensure proper recycling:

  • Food/organic waste: Use the green dotted bag
  • Clean soft plastic: Use the purple dotted bag
  • Clean paper/cardboard: Use the blue dotted bag
  • Residual waste: Use a regular plastic bag (can be translucent or a reused shopping bag)

These bags should go into the container with the black lid, which is located behind the small outbuilding on the roadside of the house.

IMPORTANT: If you’re unsure where something goes, please put it in residual waste. Incorrect sorting negatively impacts the quality of recycling, so when in doubt -> residual waste.

The container with the orange lid is for glass bottles, jars, and metal cans/lids/containers. Please place these items directly into the container—do not use bags.

A note about recycling plastic bottles and aluminum cans:

In Norway, there is a “container deposit” (pant) on bottles and cans, usually 2 NOK or 3 NOK. You can return them to any store in the country to get your deposit back.

If you’d prefer to leave them with us, we’ll gladly return them to the store. Just place them on the counter when you leave, or gather them in a bag. Make sure the bottles and cans are whole, not crushed.

For more details regardic recycling, see the picture below.

Garbage is collected every Thursday morning. We kindly ask that you bring the bin with the black lid up to the road on Wednesday evening. Thank you!
